United Arab Emirates national football team
The United Arab Emirates football team is ranked 70th in the FIFA rankings. The UAE football team is coached by Dutchman Bert van Marwijk. He previously coached Borussia Dortmund, Feyenoord and the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final against Spain.
Achievements of the United Arab Emirates national football team
The UAE national team has not competed in any World Championships so far, but it does play regularly in the Asian Cup. They have even been on the podium. In 2015 they managed to take third place at the championship in Australia. Four years later they hosted the tournament, but only managed fourth place.
Their best achievement in the Asian Cup is the 1996 final as hosts. The United Arab Emirates lost to Saudi Arabia on penalties and came close to their first official national team title. Even so, in 1997 they played in the Confederations Cup, losing in the group stage.

The Arabian Gulf League is the top competition in the United Arab Emirates. It started in 1973 and was halted in the 90/91 season due to the Gulf War. Fourteen clubs compete in the first division and 15 in the second division, the only two tiers of Emirati football.
United Arab Emirates Football Teams
The most successful club in UAE football is Al-Ain FC. They have 13 league titles to their name. The 2021 league title is about to be won. Behind them are clubs such as Al-Wasl and Al-AhliDubai, with seven league titles. The latest champions are Al-Jazira and Sharjah FC.
Other competitions include the UAE President’s Cup, where Shabab Al-Ahli have won nine titles and Al-Sharjah FC another eight. Both reign supreme. The UAE League Cup has also been played since 2008. Al-Nasr was the last winner.
