FC Porto’s goalkeeper, godfather of the Dragon Force Valencia Football School in Spain, has been hospitalised after suffering a heart problem. “Everything is under control here.
A big scare, but with his strength intact”. This was the first statement made by Iker Casillas after suffering an acute myocardial infarction while he was in one of FC Porto’s regular training sessions, at the PortoGaia Training and Sports Training Centre. The experienced Spanish goalkeeper received immediate attention on the pitch and was rushed to the CUF Porto Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a blockage of the right coronary artery, which required quick intervention for a catheterisation.
This cardiac surgery involves inserting a coronary stent into the blood vessel to prevent the artery from clogging up again. With a resounding “heart problem solved”, FC Porto confirmed the resolution of one of those scares that shakes the whole football planet every time it happens, especially when the affected player is one of the legends of the sport. Cardiovascular screening of the athlete is one of the main actions to be carried out for all youngsters who play football at competitive level.

Iker Casillas is a very special figure for our Football School. The goalkeeper is the Godfather of this project and his involvement in this project is maximum, either by sharing his time with our young footballers who travel to Porto or by sending messages of support and encouragement to our teams to continue growing as an entity. It is for this reason that both the Soccer Inter-Action International Football Academy and FC Porto Dragon Force Valencia wanted to be present in the evolution of Iker Casillas who is completely out of danger and who now has to rest to recover as soon as possible.
