A historic night in Munich: PSG conquers the Champions for the first time

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Allianz Arena witnessed an unforgettable UEFA Champions League final. PSG finally lifted their first European Cup after a resounding 5–0 victory over Inter Milan. What was expected to be a close match turned into a true display of football dominance by the Parisian side.

From the opening whistle, PSG came out determined to dictate the pace of the match. With high pressing, fast wing play, and a dominant midfield, the team coached by Luis Enrique wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Achraf Hakimi, cutting in from the right, gave PSG the lead in the 12th minute. From there, French control was total.

Young midfielder Désiré Doué, one of the season’s breakout stars, scored twice with a maturity beyond his years. Kvaratskhelia, the Georgian winger, joined the celebration with a brilliant finish, and teenage prospect Senny Mayulu sealed the scoreline with the fifth goal, completing a historic rout—the biggest margin ever in a Champions League final.

Luis Enrique and a project built on unity

Luis Enrique joined the elite group of coaches who have won the Champions League with two different clubs. Without the marquee stars of recent years, the Spanish manager has built a balanced squad where tactical cohesion and offensive fluidity define their identity.

After several failed attempts and big-money projects that fell short, PSG found success in teamwork and in developing young talent. Players like João Neves, Willian Pacho, and Doué brought not only skill but also hunger for success and commitment to the PSG team’s vision.

Luis Enrique, whose coaching career has been shaped by intensity and resilience, transformed PSG into a team that doesn’t rely on individual brilliance. The loss of his daughter Xana in 2019 gave him a new perspective on football and life—something he has passed on to his players, who give their all in every match not only for results, but for the journey itself.

Dembélé at his peak

One of the campaign’s standout figures was Ousmane Dembélé. Often criticized for his inconsistency, the French winger has flourished under Luis Enrique, delivering his best version yet. Quick, unbalancing, and hardworking in defense, Dembélé was named best player of both the Champions League and Ligue 1.

During the title celebrations, his teammate Marquinhos publicly nominated him for the Ballon d’Or, recognizing the key role he played throughout the season. Free of major injuries and displaying remarkable consistency, Dembélé has gone from unpredictable talent to established star.

Celebrations from PSG fans with highs and lows

In Paris, the long-awaited title sparked a wave of jubilation among fans. Thousands took to the streets to celebrate the historic victory. However, the night of joy was marred by violent incidents, including clashes with police, resulting in hundreds of arrests, injuries, and tragically, two deaths.

President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the team at the Élysée Palace, but used the occasion to strongly condemn the unrest and urge civic responsibility. Such a sporting achievement deserved a peaceful celebration worthy of the accomplishment.

Inter Milan: overwhelmed and out of answers

On the other side, Inter Milan had no answer for the Parisian storm. Simone Inzaghi, their coach, admitted after the match that PSG was superior in every aspect. Their usually solid defense was frequently breached, and the midfield failed to maintain possession or create danger.

The defeat left many questions hanging over the Italian side, and rumors quickly surfaced about Inzaghi’s possible departure. Though no official announcement was made, the coach’s future remains uncertain after a night where nothing went right for his team.

A model for academies like SIA Academy

Beyond the elite spectacle offered by this final, what happened in Munich delivers key lessons for youth development. The rise of young talents like Senny Mayulu and Désiré Doué underscores the need for strong academy structures that foster both technical growth and human development.

In this sense, institutions like SIA Academy, based in Enguera (Valencia), align perfectly with that philosophy. Their focus on the holistic development of players, preparing youth for professional football and life, mirrors what Luis Enrique has built at PSG. The emphasis on young talent, teamwork, and resilience are shared values.

The 2025 Champions League didn’t just crown a new champion—it reaffirmed that modern football rewards those who believe in the process, invest in their youth, and build a solid identity from the ground up. A message that inspires academies like SIA Academy to keep shaping the future stars of world football.
