The transforming experience of competing at an international level in the Mare Nostrum Cup
The Easter camp culminated with the participation of three SIA Academy teams in the international tournament Mare Nostrum Cup 2024: one U-16 team and two U-19 teams. Two of them qualified for the Gold Phase of the tournament, in which they left a very good image, but could not win any trophy. While one of them, the SIA Academy U-19 B, reached the final of the Silver Phase in which they lost in a heart-stopping match by 2 to 3 and won the runner-up trophy.
This tournament gave the players the opportunity to get to know the Mediterranean coast a little more, as the tournament has different game venues and exclusive hotels for the tournament throughout Salou. In the tournament they have played against nationally renowned teams such as Racing Club Zaragoza or UE Sant Andreu, and against well-known international teams such as Örby IS (Sweden) or Exact Sports (USA).
In addition, thanks to its proximity, we took the opportunity to enjoy a few days of disconnection in PortAventura World after the tournament.
Participation in this kind of competitions provided the players with the unique opportunity to face opponents from different playing styles and football cultures. This exchange of experiences and techniques enriches their understanding of the game and allows them to adapt to a variety of situations on the field. By playing against international teams, players develop a broader and more sophisticated view of football, which in turn improves their ability to make quick and strategic decisions during matches.
In addition, the Mare Nostrum Cup offers players the opportunity to test themselves in a high-level competitive setting. In an environment where every match counts and every play matters, young football players learn to control their nerves and perform under pressure. This invaluable experience not only builds their character and confidence, but also teaches them valuable lessons in resilience and determination.
