Xavi Candel: “The objective is to keep growing”.
We interviewed Xavi Candel, the first coach of the SIA Academy team of our subsidiary club U.D. Alzira, to get his analysis on the evolution of the team, how the players are after the holidays and what are his expectations for the second part of the season.
Xavi answered our questions on the 15th of January:
How do you analyse the first part of the season?
We can describe the first part of the season as positive. We started with some difficulties, but as the weeks went by, the team has grown and we have been able to string together 5 consecutive victories. So we are in a very good moment of form, and we value the start of the season very positively.
How did you see the team after Christmas?
After Christmas, the team has been a bit lacking in rhythm, because of the diversity of nationals we have in the team, a lot of people went to their country. We struggled a bit to get going in 2024. We are working hard to get back in shape and maintain a positive dynamic.
What contribution do you think the academy boys have made to the team?
The boys from the academy are fundamental to this project, as they bring a lot to the team. All the technical work that is done here at the academy is very important. As they are very young players, this lack of experience can be provided by this type of competition and this team so that they can grow significantly.
What is the team’s objective for the rest of the season?
Our objective for the future is to keep growing, to keep improving and with such a young squad and with such good qualities, we have to keep working to make the most of all this potential.
Complementary sessions in the annual SIA Academy programme
As part of the complementary training sessions in the annual programme, the academy players have also received physical preparation and technical training sessions with the team, as well as the opportunity to take part in the season’s matches.
