UD SIA Benigànim hosts Intercity in the RFEF Cup
SIA Benigànim are looking to advance to the regional phase of the Royal Spanish Football Federation Cup. This Wednesday, from 19:30, the Municipal de Benigànim will be dressed up to host the first official match of the 21/22 season.
Which RFEF Cup match is being played?
UD SIA Benigànim will play in the quarter-finals of the regional phase of the Federation Cup against CF Intercity, a team from Alicante that competes in Segunda RFEF with one of the highest budgets in its category. This is the first round of this competition, which begins in early September and ends in December with a national champion.
The ‘ganxut’ club will be making their debut in this competition, so it is expected to be a historic night in Benigànim. Soccer Inter-Action’s first team will be looking to make the machada and face the winner of the match between Atzeneta UE and Callosa Deportiva.
What is the format of the RFEF Cup?
The Federation Cup has a territorial phase and a national phase. The regional phase is open to teams from the RFEF Segunda RFEF and RFEF Tercera that do not participate in the Copa del Rey. Registration for this competition is voluntary and the format of this territorial phase varies each season depending on the number of teams competing for a place in the national phase.
32 teams take part in the national phase of the RFEF Cup: 19 winners of the territorial phase and 13 teams that qualified directly based on their league position last season. A draw is held to define the whole draw, and the knockout rounds are played as a single match.
From the round of sixteen to the semi-finals they are grouped according to geographical proximity, so that from the penultimate round onwards, teams from anywhere in Spain can be paired up.
Finally, all four semi-finalists have a place in the first round of the Copa del Rey, where they will host a LaLiga Santander side not participating in the Spanish Super Cup. Therefore, there could be a UD SIA Benigànim – Sevilla FC tie.
SIA’s youth academy, ready for the challenge of the RFEF Cup
Soccer Inter-Action will be well represented in the Federation Cup. The tournament of the K.O. par excellence in modest football not only serves to raise hopes of lifting an official title, but also to give minutes to the young promises that come from below.
The efforts of the SIA Academy and the training categories that work valiantly at the high performance centre in Enguera will be rewarded when they face one of the strongest teams in the Segunda RFEF.
Golden minutes for a Soccer Inter-Action academy that is looking to make a name for itself, not only in the RFEF Cup, but also in the difficult Group VI of the RFEF Third Division. The youth academy will be present in a match that will go down in history.
