How was the first part?
The first half of Villarreal CF C – UD SIA Benigànim was dominated by the home side. The talent of the players from the Champions League semi-final team was noticeable from the first moment. SIA Benigànim held on until the 30th minute, with a great goal from Álex Jiménez. Three minutes later came Jonny Arriba’s goal.
UD SIA Benigànim were unable to propose their idea of play by getting the ball out. They tried on a few occasions, when Villarreal’s pressure allowed them to do so. Finally, the third of the afternoon was scored by Bonifiglio on the edge of the box.
How did the second half go?
The second half had the same script. Bapodra came on after the break and the two players from the international academy of the SIA Academy were back together again. Canton and Pau Vidal scored Villarreal’s last two goals.
UD SIA Benigànim took advantage of the fact that the Champions League semi-final team lowered their standards to try to play the game. They were able to do so through Damián and Txema, two former Villarreal players who are part of the SIA Academy. In the end, there was no goal reward and the match ended 5-0.
SIA Academy vs Champions League semi-finalists
UD SIA Benigànim played at the Mini Estadi of the Ciudad Deportiva del Villarreal CF. It is the pitch where the first team usually trains. It is the same pitch that hours earlier had secured a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Villarreal CF’s achievement
Villarreal CF has recently achieved two historic milestones. In the summer of 2021, they added their first title to their trophy cabinet by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. Penalties denied them their first European Super Cup a few months later, but now they continue to make history in the Champions League.
As they did in 2006, in their first appearance in the Champions League, Villarreal have reached the semi-finals. This time they have beaten Atalanta and Manchester United in the group stage, Juventus in the last 16 and Bayern in the quarter-finals. Now, it is Liverpool’s turn in the last round before what would be a historic final.
