The first team defeated the Valencia subsidiary team and the División de Honor team defeated the Valencia youth team
Football smiled on UD Alzira last weekend. The first team visited the Antonio Puchades Stadium on Saturday in a fiercely competitive match and managed to win in the last minute thanks to a masterful corner. The Juvenil División de Honor achieved an unexpected victory at the Venecia Stadium where they played their best game of the season. The blaugranas managed to beat one of the most important youth teams in Spain in two matches that will go down in Alzira’s history books.
UD Alzira gave notice at the Puchades that they wanted to take the three points, and Mestalla responded soon after. Alzira had the clearest chances, but the Valencian subsidiary responded within moments with clear chances. In the first half, Alzira could have gone ahead in the 35th minute when Joaquín Rodríguez’s good play failed to find the net. The ché responded with a Joselu header just seconds later that sailed over the goal defended by Álvaro Cortés.
Mángel came on for Dylan at half-time to see if he could add an extra point to the attack. After a brilliant cross from Abraham Peleteiro, Palacín headed to the keeper’s left in the 51st minute to make it 0-1. A minute later Rodrigo Rodrigues, who had just entered the game, put it into the top corner after a mistake by the Alzira defence. The game calmed down and there was no clear winner, despite the changes of Sergio González in the 59th minute, Solbes and Pana in the 72nd, and Busquets in the 84th.
Joaquín Rodríguez shone with two shots and sent the ball wide in the 84th minute to silence the Antonio Puchades. Rodrigues’ immediate response stopped the Alzireños’ hearts, but a fine intervention by Álvaro Cortés unleashed the madness. The last play of the game was a masterful corner in favour of UD Alzira where Sergio González set up Robert Costa to score in the 95th minute. The referee then blew the final whistle and the azulgranas took all three points, maintaining their good run of form and moving them closer to the playoff places.
Elsewhere, UD Alzira’s División de Honor showed their best side and gave a masterclass in how to beat one of the title contenders. Alzira’s rock-solid defence was put in jeopardy when the referee awarded a penalty to Valencia in the 30th minute of the first half. The azulgrana goalkeeper, Iker, appeared to keep hope alive and saved the penalty. Alzira continued to attack without any luck. In the second half, the home side continued to harass the ché until a goal from a corner in the 80th minute. Tight defence and a providential Iker kept the scoreboard ticking over until the end of the game. The youth team, which is not going through its best moment, gets closer to the dream of salvation with a very important victory.
