SIA Academy hosts FC Union Berlin Women’s Winter Training Camp

The FC Union Berlin women’s team have enjoyed the facilities of the SIA Academy for a winter training camp. The players coached by Ailien Poese have completed their training sessions on the natural grass pitch during these days.

The German players have had all the comforts of a centre like Soccer Inter-Action. They have carried out their routine without any hindrance, both in the gym and on the pitch. The physical load of this training camp will provide them with a better performance for the future.

FC Union Berlin’s Spanish stage

This is the first time that the team from the German capital has come to Spain for a training camp. The team, founded in 1969, wants to reach the elite of German women’s football and that’s why they are focusing their efforts on getting promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. They chose SIA Academy to train these days as they have no competition and will start the second round in the next few weeks.

The German girls have looked for a place where the weather allows them to train without any problems and also has a natural grass pitch. They also wanted to find the hotel, the pitch, the restaurant… all in the same place. That’s why the SIA Academy’s facilities were a perfect fit for them.

Daily routine of the team

Union Berlin has trained every day they have been here. Several of those days with double sessions, in the morning and in the afternoon. They have also had their gym and stretching sessions. In addition, they have fostered group cohesion with different activities that strengthen the players’ bonds.

With regard to their schedules, each meal has always been taken at the same time. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. The restaurant at the SIA Center has been fully available to offer food according to what the club has set for each day. All these things have helped the German girls to feel at home.

SIA Academy facilities

The SIA Academy facilities, located in Enguera (Valencia), have everything necessary for a professional team to carry out a training camp during the season. Its two football pitches, gymnasium, video analysis room, etc. provide everything necessary for the staff to optimise the players’ sessions.

On the other hand, having all the services in the same location makes it different from the rest. The hotel and the restaurant, together with all the above, allow the teams to focus their performance to the maximum. There are no trips from one place to another, everything can be done on foot and without leaving the premises.

German women’s football

German women’s football was one of the first in Europe. It built up a good structure from the beginning to produce results over the years and a very competitive league. The Bundesliga started in 1990. They also have their own German Cup. One of the most successful teams is VfL Wolfsburg, who even won the Women’s Champions League.

Nowadays, they are in fierce competition with FC Bayern Munich. They are the two teams that make the difference in Germany. This then has repercussions for the German national team, which is also a protagonist at every international event and a reference for other countries. Spain has already positioned itself at the same level as Germany in terms of women’s football, although it has yet to win any national team titles.

German Women’s National Team

The team that represents the German Football Association at international tournaments is one of the most important in the world. It has won the World Cup twice in a row, in 2003 and 2007. In addition, they have won the European Championship eight times (1989, 1991, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013) and also won the Olympic Games in 2016.

They are undoubtedly a team that has marked a before and after in women’s football. Most of the players in the national team play for teams in the German league, which makes this league very competitive and means that the lower categories are growing at the same pace in order to maintain their hegemony in Europe.

Opportunities to progress in women’s football

It is not easy to become a professional footballer. Not all countries are equally committed to women’s football. In Spain, they have been working for many years in the women’s youth categories and in recent years it has been noticed in the results of the Spanish national team, as well as in the titles won by FC Barcelona. The best team at the moment.

One option in Spain are the high performance academies, to progress in a short time and match the level of the top teams. There are few academies that have female players in their ranks, but SIA Academy does. It is the only mixed academy in the country and every year it integrates more players so that they can have a future in women’s football.
