In recent years, different teams and national teams of various categories have chosen the SIA Academy facilities for pre-season training before the start of their competitions or to prepare for tournaments played in cities or regions of Spain.
Why is the Arab National Team coming to Spain?
In this case, it will be the Arabian U-20 men’s national team who will stay at our Academy from July 24, with the intention of preparing and concentrating for their participation in the traditional tournament called COTIF, which will be held between July 26 and August 6 in La Alcudia, municipality of Valencia.
It will be the return of the Arabian team to the tournament, as it was a regular participant in the first years of the 2010s, but they had not competed for several years and now they will return in search of the title that confirms the progress of Arabian soccer in recent times.
The development of Arabian soccer in recent times
Undoubtedly, the growth of soccer in Arabia has been noticeable to the world in the last year. With the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the local league, the Middle Eastern country sent a strong message and opened the way for the arrival of other stars such as Karim Benzema, N’goloKanté or Kalidou Koulibaly. The clear objective they have in Arabia, in the short term, is to keep the venue to develop the World Cup in 2030, which will be defined in 2024. For this reason, the investment they are making in players and infrastructure is very high, in addition, a good participation of their national teams at international level would be an important point to further strengthen this idea.
What is the Cotif and who participates?
The Cotif is the summer tournament par excellence. This year it will live its 39th edition with big-name teams from different parts of the world. Different stars have passed through this championship and ended up shining in the elite, such as James Rodriguez, Dani Alves or Lautaro Martinez.
In 2023, in addition to the Arabian National Team, the U-20 Mauritania National Team, Real Madrid, Valencia CF, UD Alzira, Ruhk from Ukraine and international soccer academies such as ADH from Brazil or BLFA from Nigeria will compete. They will be looking to succeed Argentina’s U-20 team, which won the title in 2022 under the guidance of Javier Mascherano.
