The German FC Union Berlin team will be staying at the SIA Academy facilities for the next few weeks. The players of the German team will take advantage of these days to face the second part of the competition in the best possible way.
Their goal is none other than promotion. Therefore, the specific work they will be doing at the SIA Center will be a reflection of their season in the coming months. This training camp will also help them to generate a good group cohesion to face the most decisive moments of the season.
FC Union Berlin Women
The women’s team from the German capital is one of the oldest in German football. Formed in 1969, they play at Berlin’s Fritz-Lesch-Sportplatz stadium (capacity 3,000) and their first kit is all red. The second kit is all black.
The men’s team of the same name plays in the German Bundesliga. Older, founded more than 100 years ago, it plays at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. They made it back to the first division in 2019. It had not done so since the reunification of Germany.
What league do you play in?
They are currently playing in the Northeast Women’s Regional League, Germany’s third women’s division. They are in third place in the standings after playing the first round. They have FFC Turbine Potsdam and Türkiyemspor Berlin as their main rivals for the championship.
They have 10 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats so far this season. Their next match will be in February against Viktoria Berlin. The team coached by Falko Grothe will be competing for promotion to the Bundesliga in the coming months.
What is its history?
On 22 September 1969, the players, most of them students of the Köpenick Teacher Training College, were given the clothing to be part of the Berlin club. The team was coached by coaches Bernd Müller and Bernd Vogel from the first men’s team of FC Union Berlin.
On 17 January 1970, the women’s team played a match against the Union men’s team for the first time, and in the following months they had some friendly matches against teams from Berlin and Tangermünde. As a competitive club at that time, the Union did not form a women’s team and it was not until 1990 that they again had a women’s football department and began to compete.
Facilities for a stage
When organising a sports training camp, many details have to be taken into account. One of them is to have all the necessary tools for the team’s day-to-day activities in the same facility. This avoids unnecessary travel and inconvenience for the players. For this, both the training fields and the gymnasium, hotel or restaurant should be located in the same place.
Another important aspect is the climate of the place. The ideal is to have the best possible weather conditions, whatever the season. That is why we look for warm places, with a pleasant climate and, if possible, with nature in the surrounding area. In addition, if they are situated in a location somewhat away from the city, it helps to be more concentrated on the stage.
Teams that have already passed through the SIA Academy
Many teams come to Soccer Inter-Action’s facilities every year to prepare for their seasons or to improve their level in the second half of the year. The Uruguayan U20 national team and the Argentinean U20 women’s national team have been welcomed. The youth teams of clubs such as Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona have also passed through our facilities.
More and more international teams or academies are taking the opportunity to stay for a couple of weeks. To have a quiet experience abroad and to make the most of the time available to improve the squad.
